The Local Area

Fernlea is approx 1 mile from the village of Errol in the Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire with the River Tay close by. Errol has 2 Mini Supermarkets, Butcher, Doctor, Chemist, Post Office, Fish & Chip Shop (Tuesday, Thursday to Sunday 4pm to 9pm), and a Public House. Cairn O’Mohr Winery with shops and factory tours is walking distance, plus an excellent cafe with home baking.

Just outside the village at Inchcoonans is the new Silverwood Lodge site with a Bistro doing nice meals.

There is a good restaurant at the Inchture Hotel and many people make use of the hourly bus service to travel the approx 3 miles so that they can have a drink before coming home with last bus around 11pm!

We are approximately half way between Perth & Dundee looking over to the hills of Fife and across the plains of the Carse to the Sidlaw Hills. The area is well known for arable farming with plenty of soft fruit and vegetables produced here.

Bird watchers may be interested in the many geese flying around the Tay estuary, plus there are buzzards and hawks frequenting the trees adjacent to the property. Have recently had a harris hawk visiting and Sea Eagles are in the area following their release by the RSPB at Tentsmuir Forest, Leuchars. The local reed beds also have some rare birds seen by our visitors.

The property is adjacent to the old Errol Airfield which is still used by the local Parachute club and often provides an entertaining spectacle. On Sunday mornings the largest Car Boot Sale in Scotland is also housed on the Airfield.

For visitors keen on cycling the Tay cycle route is adjacent to the property with no steep hills until you get near Perth. Walkers can undertake the many walks by the River Tay or up in to the hills towards Coupar Angus and Blairgowrie.

Visitors wishing to explore Perth or Dundee can use the local hourly Bus service either way taking you to the heart of both cities.

A visit to the new V&A Museum in Dundee is made by many of our visitors who also take a tour of the ship”Discovery”which is moored adjacent. The McManus Gallery, The Jute Museum and Dundee Transport Museum are also popular plus seeing the comic statues around the town made famous by printers D.C. Thomson of Beano & Dandy fame plus the Sunday Post characters.

Dundee has train services to the centres of Edinburgh and Aberdeen which is ideal for visiting these cities especially at Festival time. Perth Station is well suited for Glasgow and Inverness plus further North.

We are open to Visitors all year round.

The site is ideal for Motorhome owners wishing to visit the cities of Perth and Dundee as you can leave the van on our site, walk 50 yards and get on the hourly bus services right to the heart of both cities shopping centres.
Approximately a mile away is Perthshire Caravans a main dealer for many makes with stocks of Caravans & Motorhomes to dream about !, plus also obtain any spares or repairs you may require while on holiday.
